News: Summer Interns Join the Team

Meet our 2024 summer interns, Ashley and Josie, who will be leading a trout geomorphic assessment in the southwest metro. Our interns are an important part of the team and we look forward to everything they will accomplish this summer.

Ashley Weihs (shown left) joins us from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, where she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, policy, and management with minors in water science and forest ecosystem management and conservation. Scheduled to graduate in May 2025, Ashley brings relevant experience from her recent internship with the City of Minneapolis as a GIS & Water Resources Engineering Intern, contributing to surface water and sewer operations, conducting asset assessments, utilizing ArcGIS software, and developing sustainable landscape planting plans. Ashley also worked as a Temporary Beach Sampler at the Lake County Health Department, where she conducted field investigations and supporting laboratory operations. Apart from her academic and professional achievements, Ashley is also a University of Minnesota Cheerleader.

Josie Khan (shown right) holds a Bachelor of Science in Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering with a specialization in Environmental and Ecological Engineering from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. She brings experience as a Water Quality Assistant at the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board, where she managed pool operations, conducted stormwater sampling, and contributed to technical reporting. She also worked as a Water Monitoring Intern at the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, conducting fieldwork, maintaining technical equipment, and contributing to data collection efforts. Josie is proficient in languages like Mandarin and has skills in programs like Microsoft Excel, Solidworks, WMS, ArcGIS Pro, and HydroCAD. She is also certified in Erosion and Stormwater Management.
