Technical Services Provider – District Engineer

lower minnesota river watershed district, chaska, mn, 2016-present

Background
The Lower Minnesota River Watershed District (LMRWD) manages water resources in the southwest metro, with the Minnesota River Valley as a connecting feature. The watershed is home to unique resources like calcareous fens, trout streams, gullies, prairies, lakes, and rivers. The LMRWD protects water and natural resources throughout an 80-square mile boundary that spans 14 diverse communities.

Strengths & Solutions
Since 2016, Young Environmental has served as the technical consultant and District Engineer, supporting LMRWD as an extension of its staff. We have updated the watershed management plan and rules development and are currently guiding implementation efforts. Our team completes project and task management, project plan reviews, permit reviews, local stormwater management plan (SWMP) reviews, stakeholder coordination, and resource management studies. Because of the complex characteristics of the watershed, including its natural resources and adjacent land development, our holistic approach to watershed management fits the needs of the LMRWD.

Project Impact
The District is currently leading a wide variety of capital improvement projects that create action around resource management, protecting the natural environment for the communities they serve. Active projects within LMRWD include: Lake, Wetland, Streambank Restoration and Management; Hydrologic, Hydraulic, and Water Quality Modeling and Analysis; Urban Stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) design and Construction Management; Water Resources Permitting; Groundwater Protection and Management; Grants; Stakeholder Engagement; and Education and Outreach.
