Job Opportunity: Water Resources Scientist/Engineer (EIT)

We are looking to add an enthusiastic, critical-thinking professional with specific qualifications who wants to contribute positively and effectively. This professional will assume the responsibilities detailed below.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review engineering calculations, analyses, reports, drawings, specifications, and other documents for public infrastructure, water resources, or habitat restoration projects.
Assist Project Engineers and Project Managers in transportation drainage design, stormwater and best management practice design, modeling, and permitting projects.
Complete project plan reviews for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Collaborate with senior staff to investigate and strategize solutions for erosion and drainage issues.
Create maps and drawings using ArcGIS.
Prepare hydrology, hydraulic, and water quality models with senior staff.
Analyze reports, maps, and other data sources to inform project planning and design.
Support the development of comprehensive watershed management plans and natural resources initiatives. Review development plans, including grading and erosion control plans, stormwater management plans, and construction plans, for conformance with water resources and natural resources-related rules.
Review, investigate, and recommend improvements to drainage issues and policies under senior staff direction.
Prepare written reports, technical memos, and client recommendations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in water quality, stormwater management, and natural resources fields to ensure effective and efficient client efforts. Provide ideas for innovations and follow-through to implementation.
Investigate, inspect, and document findings of permitted construction sites.
Communicate with and respond to questions from developers, residents, and property owners in a timely and professional manner, as directed by senior staff.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in hydrology, water resources management, environmental studies, civil engineering, or a related field and work experience in water resources or environmental studies.
1 to 3 years of experience.
Knowledge of hydrology and hydraulic concepts.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or hydrology software.
Registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
University of Minnesota erosion and stormwater management certification.
ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS
Ability to review and understand relevant local, state, and federal laws related to water quality and stormwater management.
Proficiency with GIS systems.
Ability to communicate ideas and explanations clearly in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence that conform to prescribed style and format.
Knowledge of proper English, spelling, and punctuation.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Proficiency in mathematical concepts, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, and knowledge of surveying.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), web-based email, and timesheet software.
Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
Ability to work with the public in a friendly, tactful manner.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with a diverse audience.
Job Type: Full-time
Compensation and Benefits: $50,000–$75,000 (depending on qualifications) salary, flexible schedule, paid time off, safe and sick time, nine paid holidays, retirement benefits (401k match), and health benefits (medical, dental, vision and health savings account).
Location: Enjoy the flexibility to work with a remote team, with a home office in Brooklyn Center, MN. Collaboration time is spent intentionally during dedicated in-person team meetings scheduled periodically throughout the year. An in-person presence will be required for client meetings and project site visits within the Twin Cities metro area as project needs dictate.
