Job Opportunity: Water Resources Intern

Young Environmental Consulting Group, LLC (Young Environmental) is looking to fill up to three Water Resources Intern positions. Successful candidates will support watershed management organization projects involving watershed management and planning, environmental project coordination and administration, and stormwater monitoring and inspection. This will be under the direct supervision of task leads, project managers, and the company’s chief executive officer. The desired candidate should have schedule flexibility; strong interpersonal and communication skills; and should be enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and willing to learn new skills.

  • Position Title: Intern 

  • Position Status: Temporary 

  • Salary: $20 - 24 per hour 

  • Hours: 40 hours per week (May–August 2025) 

  • Location: Enjoy the flexibility to work with a remote team, with a home office in Brooklyn Center, MN. Collaboration time is spent intentionally during dedicated in-person team meetings scheduled periodically. An in-person presence will be required for client meetings and project site visits within the Twin Cities metro area to complete project fieldwork.

Responsibilities 

  • Conduct research related to water resources studies, including scientific, engineering, planning, and policy topics. 

  • Conduct field investigations in variable weather conditions.  

  • Compile and compute a variety of data and help catalog and manage databases. 

  • Develop or prepare descriptive charts, figures and maps, and tables and matrices. 

  • Support water resource planning through the application of quantitative and qualitative evaluation techniques. 

  • Perform technical writing assignments to contribute to project documentation and deliverables such as memos and reports. 

  • Work directly with an experienced project manager and clients. 

  • Learn database management and project management skills. 

  • Present a project summary to clients. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must be in their sophomore, junior, or senior year of a BS/BA program or working toward a master's program in water resources, environmental studies, hydrology, aquatic ecology, environmental engineering, or a related field. 

  • Familiarity or experience with fundamentals of environmental policy, watershed management and planning, hydrology, and water quality. 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to summarize and present scientific data and model outputs in concise, readable language and figures. 

  • Must be computer literate and have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and ArcGIS. 

  • Must have a GPA of 2.5 or better. 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to commute to off-site locations, as needed. 

  • Must have the right to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
